Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact

The Green Deal needs Green Infrastructure

Over 100 data centre operators and trade associations are committed to the European Green Deal, achieving the ambitious greenhouse gas reductions of the climate law, and leveraging technology and digitalization to achieve the goal of making Europe climate neutral by 2050. To ensure data centres are an integral part of the sustainable future of Europe, data centre operators and trade associations agree to make data centres climate neutral by 2030.

What do we do?

We purchase 100% carbon-free energy

We prioritise
water consumption

We reuse and repair servers

We prove energy efficiency with measurable targets.

We look for ways to recycle the heat

Our Future Plans

Deadline for new data centres to be climate neutral under terms of SRI

● New data centres operating at full capacity in cool climates will meet an annual PUE target of 1.3 and 1.4 for new data centres running at full capacity in warm climates.

● Data centre operators will increase the quantity of server materials repaired or reused and create a target percentage for repair and reuse

● Data centre electricity demand will be matched by 75% renewable energy or hourly carbon-free energy

2030
Deadline for existing data centres to be climate neutral under terms of SRI

● All European data centres are climate neutral

● Existing data centres will achieve the same targets (total capacity in cool climates, annual PUE target of 1.3; full capacity in warm climates, annual PUE of 1.4) as for new data centres

● Data centre electricity demand will be matched by 100% renewable energy or hourly carbon-free energy
